Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at Boston Medical Center is a new state of the art hospital clinical research space which will serve as a Service Center for research projects across the hospital.  The Financial Analyst, Clinical Research Unit (CRU) will complete monthly duties aligned with the daily operations under the direction of the CRU Director of Business Operations. Provides accounting and analytical support to the team and communicates findings to the Management Team.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Oversight

1.      Revenue 

  • Manage quality Control procedures to ensure billing is reconciled against scheduling, lab, and clinical procedures.
  • Ensure detailed itemization of costs are allocated to appropriate studies, at the participant level. Complete monthly invoicing to multiple study sites.
  • Communicate discrepancies to study teams and financial teams to ensure resolution in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Work with Clinical Coordinator and Office Manager to confirm accuracy of data entry related to daily participant visits and services received. Ensures all journal entries are processed successfully prior to monthly close.
  • Complete monthly Invoice Reconciliation.

 

2.      Expenses  

  • Ensure timely completion of requisitions to verify costs are allowable, allocable, and reasonable based on institutional and sponsor policies. Collaborate with Clinical Research Coordinators for supporting documentation as needed. 
  • Manages purchasing, invoice payments, corporate credit card reconciliation, and accounts payable for the department.  
  • Monitors departmental budget and account balances, helping managers to stay within approved budgets, and documenting all approved variances. 
  • Prepare monthly P&L summary for review . Monthly review of General Ledger; troubleshoot any discrepancies as needed. Firm understanding of all revenue and expenses, which will span across multiple study sites.   
  • Annual Budget Preparation and Submission. Creating and maintaining the update of SOP’s 

Reporting

  • Building reports to share with senior leaders around clinic usage: study teams, types of services being rendered, outstanding AR, etc.
  • Provide monthly senior leadership reports on key financial performance metrics. Provide quarterly forecast reporting based on projected expenses and usage
  • Manage quarterly P&L reporting to senior leadership
  • Serve as department financial liaison with internal and external study sites, Accounts Payable/Receivable, and other departments

 

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Research Finance Analysts with billing and closeout/reconciliation functions. 
  • Cross Coverage as needed for Office Manager and Clinic Coordinator

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or equivalent required

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years of accounting or financial analysis experience required.

  • Experience in post-award grants administration or research finance preferred.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written). 

  • Strong computer skills are essential (Excel /Access/Word /Outlook).  Ability and willingness to become proficient in other computer applications. 

  • Ability to take initiative, handle multiple priorities and tasks in a deadline driven environment. Must be able to maintain accuracy and be detail oriented.  

  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Experience maintaining confidentiality with overly sensitive information

  • Experience with tracking financials for medical supplies preferred
