POSITION SUMMARY:
The Facilities Command and Control Center Technician Intern will assist the Facilities Control Center Team. The intern will be assigned various tasks and be taught programming and equipment throughout the course of work.

The intern shall possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, multi-task, utilize critical thinking, ability to triage telephone calls and assess the appropriate response, radio dispatching personnel and monitoring systems, ability to remain calm under stressful conditions, while providing excellent customer service.

The Technician will be proficient in the Facilities software, programs and communication systems, including two-way radio, work order systems, Building Automation Systems, fire alarm systems, and pneumatic tube system.

Schedule: 16 hours a week

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Operates and monitors Building Automation Systems (BAS) systems as required, while responding to life safety issues, emergencies and service requests.
  • Triages incoming telephone calls to obtain all necessary information to assesses the appropriate resources and assist callers.
  • Providing superior customer service in a calm, civil, and professional manner.
  • Ability to learn, understand and utilize established policy, procedures and training to provide safe, effective and efficient service to the Boston Medical Center Community.
  • Possesses the ability to become familiar and knowledgeable of all Boston Medical Center buildings, addresses, facilities, layout of streets surrounding the campus and any other significant areas of the community so as to maximize the accuracy, safety and speed of dispatch.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records of all activity occurring in the C&CC, documenting responses by personnel in the field.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned or required.


 

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or an equivalency certificate issued by the Massachusetts Department of Education

Preferred - Associates Degree or higher


EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of Building Automation systems and Emergency telecommunication training and experience is preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must be proficient at multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple calls for service requests and emergencies.
  • The ability to learn, understand and operate, BAS systems and technology managed in the Command and Control Center including Johnson Controls Metasys & Siemens Apogee Insight.
  • The ability to maintain composure during stressful and demanding situations, while projecting confidence and control, even in stressful conditions.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills in person, on telephone and over the radio.

  • Up to date with all current regulations regarding working in an active hospital environment.
  • Responsible for ensuring all standard Hospital safety regulations as well as those of all regulatory authorities having jurisdiction are followed.
  • Ensures safe and clean working environments in order to eliminate accidents and abide by Boston Medical Center and departmental policy and procedures.
