POSITION SUMMARY:
The Executive Director, System Finance & Chief of Staff to the System Chief Financial Officer, serves as a senior leader within the System Finance Division and a trusted advisor to the System Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting directly to the System CFO, this role is responsible for leading the Finance Division's operating model, coordinating execution of enterprise Finance priorities, and ensuring alignment across the System Finance function in support of Boston Medical Center Health System's strategic, operational, and financial objectives.
Working across the System Finance function, the Executive Director partners with Finance leaders to drive organizational alignment, executive governance, strategic analysis, and cross-functional execution. Serving as an extension of the System Chief Financial Officer, the role translates strategic priorities into operational action, develops executive communications and Board materials, facilitates organizational decision-making, and leads special initiatives that advance the Finance Division's and health system's strategic objectives.
As the senior operational leader of the Finance Division, the Executive Director establishes governance structures, drives organizational effectiveness, develops leadership capability, and ensures disciplined execution of the System CFO's priorities while fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across the Finance organization.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Lead the day-to-day operating model for the System Finance function by establishing governance, leadership routines, performance management processes, decision-making frameworks, and organizational priorities that drive execution across all Finance functions.
Coordinate priorities across Financial Planning & Analysis, Treasury, Accounting, Revenue Cycle, Decision Support, Community Hospital Finance, Physician Enterprise Finance, Finance Transformation, and other Finance functions to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
Serve as the primary strategic advisor and Chief of Staff to the System Chief Financial Officer by coordinating executive priorities, managing Finance Division governance, facilitating leadership meetings, preparing Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, Executive Leadership Team, and executive presentations, tracking strategic initiatives, and ensuring accountability for execution of key organizational decisions.
Lead special projects and executive initiatives on behalf of the System CFO.
Translate the System CFO's strategic vision into executable initiatives by aligning Finance resources, coordinating enterprise priorities, removing organizational barriers, monitoring strategic initiatives, and ensuring timely execution of Finance Division objectives.
Partner with executive and operational leaders to support implementation of enterprise initiatives that strengthen financial performance and organizational effectiveness.
Provide executive-level financial analysis, business cases, benchmarking, dashboards, strategic recommendations, and decision support that inform executive leadership, Board Committees, and enterprise decision-making.
Direct executive governance processes and ensure Finance communications accurately reflect organizational priorities and strategic direction.
Lead, coach, and develop Finance leaders by establishing clear expectations, fostering collaboration, supporting succession planning, strengthening organizational capability, and creating a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence throughout the Finance Division.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field and 10–12 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in finance, healthcare administration, consulting, strategy, or organizational leadership supporting executive decision-making and enterprise-wide initiatives within a complex, matrixed organization; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives, executive governance, organizational effectiveness, and strategic planning in a large healthcare system or similarly complex organization. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Public Health (MPH), or other relevant advanced degree.
Experience supporting executive leadership teams, Boards, or Board Committees within an integrated health system, academic medical center, or similarly complex organization.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES, & REGISTRATIONS:
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, or other relevant leadership or finance certification preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Demonstrated executive leadership and organizational influence within a complex health system or similarly matrixed organization.
Extensive knowledge of healthcare finance, strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, and executive governance.
Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.
Ability to translate strategic vision into executable plans and measurable organizational outcomes.
Demonstrated success leading through influence across multiple functions and executive stakeholders.
Proven ability to develop high-performing leaders and foster collaboration across a complex Finance organization.
Strong business acumen, analytical capability, sound judgment, and discretion in managing highly confidential information.
Compensation Range:
$198,500.00- $288,000.00This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
