POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vascular Ultrasound Technical Manager plays a pivotal role in leading and advancing all aspects of vascular imaging operations at Boston Medical Center’s Brighton campus and affiliated outpatient locations. This is a high-impact leadership position, responsible not only for performing high-level clinical duties, but also for overseeing day-to-day operational vascular surgery lab management, staffing (including directly supervising a team of Vascular Technicians), quality assurance, education, accreditation, and service development. The Technical Manager is the primary resource and mentor for vascular staff and a partner to departmental leadership in long-term planning and quality initiatives.

This individual will be instrumental in shaping and expanding the vascular service line—particularly through support of the venous treatment program, student teaching, and implementation of best practices across all offices. They will also be the go-to person for staff guidance, procedural development, and technical troubleshooting, and will play a direct role in recruiting and onboarding new team members.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

1.Strategic and Administrative Leadership

  • Define, develop and execute strategic planning goals for vascular service line to include but not limited to growth, quality, revenue and patient outcomes
  • Budget planning, financial performance monitoring and resource allocation
  • Vendor and equipment procurement/negotiations for advanced vascular imaging
  • Policy creation for vascular testing, reporting and workflow efficiency
  • Develop staffing models and scheduling strategies for efficient patient throughput
  • Build and maintain referral networks with referring providers
  • Collaborate with community health programs for vascular disease prevention/screening
  • Oversee day-to-day multisite clinical operations across 4 vascular offices, including inpatient, outpatient, sterile-procedure, and OR workflows.
  • Lead the build-out of the registered vascular technologist program and vein center at Brighton, with responsibility for scaling the model across all system locations

2. Clinical & Technical Excellence

  • Serve as lead vascular technologist and primary point of contact for all diagnostic vascular exams.
  • Establish diagnostic criteria, reporting standards and protocols
  • Evaluate and educate staff on new imaging modalities
  • Develop training curriculum for supporting technologists
  • Troubleshoot protocol, schedule, and equipment issues as they arise.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of all vascular studies; mentor and advise staff technologists.

3. Quality Assurance & Accreditation

  • Oversees accreditation processes and compliance with CMS, Joint Commission and hospital/state regulations
  • Implements evidence-based best practices for vascular imaging
  • Conduct regular QA reviews, protocol adherence checks, and measurement audits.
  • Provide feedback and targeted remediation to the Chair of Surgery and Department Administrator.
  • Develops corrective action plans on audits or quality variances
  • Represent vascular surgery lab at hospital council meetings
     

4. Vascular Practice & Service Growth

  • Participate in growing venous treatment practice through operational planning and patient flow optimization in collaboration with the Department Administrator and Chief of Vascular at each system hospital
  • Develop and enhance service offerings in alignment with clinical and departmental goals by creating and overseeing metrics, developing and implementing action plans, and tracking progress and ensure goals are met

5. Team Leadership & Human Resources

  •  Responsible for recruitment, interviews, and evaluation processes for vascular technologists.
  • Oversee staff onboarding, training, and ongoing performance reviews.
  • Serve as mentor, clinical instructor, and training lead for technologists, residents, fellows, and students.

6. Protocol, Policy & Educational Initiatives

  • Draft and update department protocols and procedural policies.
  • Develops and implements clinical education programs and student training rotations.

8. Scholarship & Academic Engagement

  • Contribute to research and case study publications through data management and analysis, reviewing findings with the Chief of Vascular Surgery to optimize the program, and supporting manuscript development and publication.
  • Serve as peer reviewer for vascular journals or institutional publications.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teaching rounds and educational forums.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in vascular sonography with at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Strong experience with IAC accreditation and QA protocols in vascular imaging.
  • Experience in protocol development, research, and academic engagement.

ARDMS-certified (RDMS, RVT) – vascular ultrasound required.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in medical matrix team, and the ability to adequately represent needs of medical services, and work with multiple physicians.

  • Extensive knowledge of vascular physiology, anatomy and pathology.
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building skills; ability to mentor, guide and motivate direct reports through demonstration of best practices and leading by example.
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and produce expected results.
  • Highly developed skills using personal computer tools including computerized healthcare information system, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
