Schedule: 36 Hours, Nights, Weekends Required, Full Time, Benefit Eligible

Responsibilities:

The Certified Surgical Tech is a member of the surgical team in the operating room who acts as the primary scrub person who handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary, prior to and during the surgical procedure. He/she provides technical assistance during procedures in the operating room. Provides patient care within the prevailing national and state standards of practice and the policies of the facility. May have additional responsibilities as designated by the OR Manager which include, but are not limited to, providing patient care in other areas.

The Surgical Tech will have an understanding of the procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

  • Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Ensures scrubs and donning of gowns and gloves are completed.
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures.
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
  • Helps in draping sterile field.
  • Passes instruments, and supplies to surgeons during procedures.
  • Maintains highest standard of sterile techniques during procedures.
  • Prepares sterile dressings.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilizations.
  • Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of rooms.
  • Assists in prepping room for the next patients.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma. Completion of an approved surgical technologist course.
  • Experience: 1 year of surgical experience.
  • Certification/Licensure: Certified as a Surgical Technologist, BLS
