Primarily responsible for performing the regular daily operations of the Vascular Laboratory, including integrating the responsibilities with the other technical employee(s) within the laboratory.
Performs non-invasive and vascular ultrasound testing and provides preliminary interpretation.
Manages regular day-to-day operations to ensure efficient operation of the unit.
To develop knowledge, increase expertise and autonomy within the field of vascular medicine, both clinical and research, exploring new diagnostic modalities and development.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Performs non-invasive, vascular ultrasound examinations utilizing appropriate equipment; i.e., Doppler ultrasound, B-mode real time imaging and color-flow imaging, etc.
Views screen, detects pathology/other factors (p/u, change of shape, etc.). Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological and diagnostic images.
Assist with the maintenance of laboratory accreditation via ICAVL and JCOH
Provides referring physicians with preliminary interpretation and delivers all study results to physicians for formal interpretation.
Makes copies of and distributes to referring physicians and all final copies of reports.
Records and bills all Laboratory procedures for studies performed; ensures all pertinent information is appropriately filed, for patient records and teaching purposes.
Maintains daily log of patients seen / completes exam billing forms.
Oversees and periodically tests equipment to ensure it is kept in working order and is properly calibrates. Notifies Medical Engineering of any equipment malfunction or contacts appropriate outside contractors to evaluate.
Maintains ultrasound equipment and work areas & maintains adequate supplies.
Provides instruction and information to medical staff, residents and fellows about the capabilities and proper use of equipment and techniques used in vascular testing.
Participates in and attends conferences, seminars and meetings with other technologists on a national basis and utilizes available literature to obtain current information on new diagnostic techniques.
Educates patients as to risk factors causing their particular disease; i.e., diet, exercise, smoking, etc.
Orders and maintains stock of supplies for the Laboratory.
May train, orient, direct work of other and demonstrate procedures.
Keeps current with new techniques, equipment, through journals and outside educational activities.
Reporting Requirements:
Reports immediately to supervisor of any deviation of normal operations.
Reports immediately to attending physician and/or supervisor of any unusual occurrences related to patients, other staff, self or machines.
Reports all incidents and breaches in quality of care to the Department Chief.
Accountability:
Shall be accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all hospital-related, special studies related, medical staff related, and patient related data and information.
Shall be accountable for abiding by all relevant hospital policies and procedures.
Shall be accountable for observing all policies and procedures of the department, including infection control policies and procedures.
Shall be accountable for maintaining the safety, integrity and comfort of the patient at all times.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree preferred, but work experience considered.
Minimum Experience:
2-4 years working experience.
Minimum skills/abilities:
Level of knowledge generally obtained through a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology.
Registration in Vascular Technology (ARDMS) is required eventually, if not obtained prior to employment.
Ability to operate equipment and provide accurate preliminary interpretation of test results.
Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with patients, physicians, employees and students.
Performs related duties as necessary.
Certification/Licensure:
Registration in Vascular Technology (ARDMS) or eligible required.
