Schedule: 16 Hours, Evenings, Every Other Weekend, Part-Time, Non-Benefit Eligible

Responsibilities:

A Respiratory Therapist (RT) is a professional member of the healthcare team who provides skilled respiratory care to newborns through geriatrics under the direction/orders of a physician. The RT assists in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary diseases and related disorders in a professional and competent manner. The RT participates in providing patient and family education. The RT may assess a patient’s respiratory status and recommends appropriate therapy.

  • Acts as a member of the health care delivery team assisting in the development and implementation of multidisciplinary patient care plans. Documents assessment of patient response to ongoing care and participates in the reevaluation of care delivery. Acts as an integral part of the health ream that partakes in the pulmonary rehabilitation of the difficult to wean patients.
  • Administers ordered therapy while clinically monitoring patient for outcome, hazards, or complications arising during or immediately following therapy. Maintains, monitors, measures, and adjusts mechanical ventilators appropriately to assure proper function and to ascertain therapeutic effectiveness.
  • Provides emergency response for cardiopulmonary arrest, respiratory emergencies, hospital disasters and other emergencies as needed.
  • Using appropriate instrumentation, measures pulmonary function, gas exchange, respiratory rate, tidal and minute ventilation, alveolar to arterial PO2 gradient, intrapulmonary shunt fraction respiratory mechanics, pulse rate, arterial blood gases, end-tidal CO2, and pulse oximetry.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through in-serve meetings, educational programs, current literature, workshops, etc.

Requirements:

  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or a Certificate of Completion from an AMA accredited program in Respiratory care is required.
  • Experience: 1 years of acute care experience care preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: MA Respiratory Care licensure, completion of one general clinical practices credentialing examination from the NBRC and hold a current CRT or a RRT, NRP (within 6 months of hire), BLS, PALS, and ACLS preferred
  • Software/Hardware: Experience with Meditech is preferred.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to satisfactorily explain respiratory therapy/pulmonary function test procedures to patients.
  • Respiratory Therapy Clinical Practice Guidelines.
