POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Recovery Manager will serve as a core member of the treatment team within a new, 45-bed men’s behavioral health unit operated by Boston Medical Center (BMC) located in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department’s (SCSD) Jail. In collaboration with Clinical and Administrative leadership, this role will take the lead in ensuring the provision of evidenced based and holistic substance use treatment. 

This role will require both provision of clinical care, ensure the delivery of high quality patient care, implement best practices, and meet state requirements. Direct patient care responsibilities will include intake assessments, individual counseling, facilitation of group therapy, and clinical case conferencing. This role requires practicing non-judgmental patient centered care and cultural humility in order to care for an impacted patient population who is often marginalized within the healthcare and justice systems. Experience within corrections is not required, as the goal of this program is to deliver community level and quality of treatment inside the jail.

As part of this innovative new collaboration between BMC and SCSD, this role will report into the BMC Department of Psychiatry, directly reporting to the Director of Population Behavioral Health. Work will be completed within office and clinical settings, both housed within a setting of incarceration. This is a full time position, with preferred hours in the afternoon/evening. The person who fills this position must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary care team, overseeing the provision of high quality addiction care within the program
  • Provide clinical oversight of entry-level recovery team members including recovery specialists and recovery coaches including coaching, chart reviews, collaborative care planning
  • Provide evidence-based evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with substance use disorders and/or psychiatric illness through formats including assessment, crisis assessment, individual therapy, and group therapy
  • Alongside other clinical and recovery staff, assist in the ongoing development of group material that is evidenced based and/or culturally responsive
  • Support high quality clinical documentation for all recovery services including completing individual documentation in an accurate and timely manner as well as supporting the development and use of standardized substance use assessment
  • Work with other leadership to establish clinical training and staff development opportunities, leading trainings when appropriate
  • Support the teaching of students and other trainees as indicated, including supervision of MSW students
  • Assist with departmental and organizational quality improvement programs, program evaluation, and in meeting BSAS/DMH/DPH requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Master’s or doctorate degree in behavioral health field

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Massachusetts license as an independently licensed mental health professional such as Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or PsyD (Clinical Psychologist)

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years providing behavioral health treatment to impacted patient populations
  • Experience with implementation of evidence based substance use treatment
  • Lived experience is valued Preference for those who have worked within the criminal justice system      Preference for those who have worked on multi-disciplinary teams with individuals in peer roles and/or have supervised peer roles

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and interdisciplinary team, support team development and cohesiveness.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidenced based behavioral health treatment and demonstrated clinical excellence
  • Strong understanding of a wide range of diagnoses and levels of care across behavioral health and medical settings
  • Skilled at engaging difficult to engage patients—build rapport, trust and utilizing de-escalation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, inclusive of organizational skills, time management skills, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner with healthcare providers, patients and families, general public, staff members, external agencies, and other organizational leaders.
  • Ability to work independently and to make decisions based on established policies and procedures.
  • Proficient oral and written English communication skills.
  • Bi-lingual and/or bi-cultural candidates preferred
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office suite experience (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • Experience using an electronic health record preferred
