Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for overseeing the RECOVER long COVID clinical research project under the direction of Principal Investigator and co-investigators. Research study will focus on the major responsibilities of managing the grant-funded research project include working with the study team to develop study protocols, assessment instruments, and Institutional Review Board protocols; monitoring study implementation; assisting with manuscripts and presentations; ensuring compliance with reporting to NIH, and to coordinating new grant applications. Will monitor budgets and spending and coordinate contracts with independent consults and subcontractors.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

CORE DUTIES  (These generally will be required but may not always apply based on department-specific needs):

Project Management

  • Coordinates and facilitates the research project management life cycle, including management, retention, and implementation of various project arms. Responsible for scoping, coordinating research activities, training research staff, and managing the completion of investigational forms.
  • Coordinates research teams, and manages research project timelines, to ensure research trials or milestones are completed within the specified timeline and in line with annual objectives.
  • Meets regularly with stakeholders, including research staff, study participants, and study teams, to collect and communicate business and research requirements, and set expectations for research-related work.
  • Responsible for the completion of both research and project management deliverables, including project plans and research schedules, progress reports and investigational applications.

Research Management

  • Works with Principal Investigators to select the most appropriate methodology and techniques for facilitating the research.
  • Works with research team to facilitate & ensure protocol adherence, quality assurance and HIPAA compliance.
  • Collects data, summarizes and enters research data.
  • Collaborates with Principal Investigator to author journal articles and to present findings at research seminars, study groups and conferences.

Staff Management

  • Supervise support staff (e.g., Research Coordinators, Research Assistants, etc), including training, delegating tasks, overseeing daily activities, mentoring, guiding through demonstration of best practices and offering opportunities for professional development.
  • Prepares performance evaluations, submits timesheets; responsible for hiring, disciplining and processing terminations in accordance with established polices.
  • Schedules and facilitates staff meetings. Plans agenda and ensures that minutes are taken, edited and distributed.

Administrative Duties

  • Manages purchasing, invoices and accounts payable for the department.  Assists the Principal Investigator with monitoring expenses, facilitating contracts, ordering materials and documenting all approved variances.
  • Liaisons with Institutional Review Board (IRB) for submissions, correspondence, and regulatory binders, including administrative amendments.
  • Assists with development and writing of proposals to obtain funding for ongoing and future research activities.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with the study’s Data Monitoring and Safety Board, tracking and reporting adverse events and collecting data specified by the DMSB. Responsible for all other administrative duties related to research activities.

DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC DUTIES

DEPARTMENT: Infectious Diseases

RESEARCH STUDY OR CLINICAL TRIAL:

  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to protocol and manual of procedures, and reporting any protocol deviations and/or adverse events that may occur to sponsoring institution.
  • Responsible for the completion and regular submission of other regulatory documents as necessary including consent forms, personnel changes, delegation logs etc.
  • Maintain regular compliance with local BMC IRB and communication with BMC regulatory team leads
  • Maintain consistent communication with sponsoring institution and collaborators on a weekly basis.
  • Stay up-to-date on proper procedures/SOPs for study visit conduction, oversee the conduction of regular participant study visits, and provide assistance or coverage as necessary
  • Assist with regular scheduling of participant visits as necessary
  • Regularly maintain source documentation for all study-related participant research activities and act as main study lead during any regulatory audits (internal or external).

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree in related field (may consider candidates with Bachelor’s degree who have at least 6 years directly related research and/or clinical experience).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in clinical research, public health, health care administration and/or related field, including experience managing projects and operations.   

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, have exceptional oral communications and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, including budgeting, planning, execution, delivery, quality assurance, and reporting.
  • Experience in data analysis and manuscript preparation is helpful.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Power Point, Excel, and REDCap is essential.
  • Must be a proactive problem solver with superb planning, program coordination, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with IRB submissions is recommended but not required.

This position is grant funded. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.
