POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sleep Lab Manager will be responsible for American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited sleep lab at Boston Medical Center. You manage those who will specialize in providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment for pediatric and adult patients suffering from sleep disorders. You will be responsible for quality metrics, regulatory, accreditation, and day to day management of the labs. This position requires providing service to populations ranging from neonatal to adulthood and geriatrics in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Schedule: Full time 40 hrs

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Operations

  • Implement departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization.
  • Assess quality of patient care and coordinates patient care services with patients, staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • Prepare and monitor departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations.
  • Identify and problem solve process or workflow failures that may impact study quality, patient satisfaction, lab efficiency and medical community satisfaction/perception of lab
  • Prepare documentation for American Academy of Sleep Medicine accreditation
  • Ensure sleep lab procedures for in-lab and home sleep studies are scheduled appropriately with prior authorizations completed ahead of visit

Management

  • Interviews, hires, trains, supervise, evaluate performance and disciplines as necessary for staff and in doing so, seeks feedback, evaluation, and guidance from the professional staff as appropriate and according to established personnel policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that hiring and supervising practices and promotion recommendation actively support the organization’s affirmative action and equal opportunity policy, and diversity statement.
  • Acquires, maintains, and utilizes knowledge of current labor contracts and personnel policies and procedures for all staff.
  • Manage staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, conflict management and other job related issues.
  • Provide on-call coverage for issues or escalations from sleep techs or patients during overnight in-lab studies.
  • Implement specialty quality initiatives in the areas of patient safety, the Joint Commission, specialty accreditation, and performance improvement in alignment with network specialty plan and promotes specialty knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate on ensuring compliance with required educational and competency standards.
  • Provide technical support and training for sleep techs while being the liaison between the hospital department and medical director/other physicians.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma required.

Associates Degree or higher preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Must be registered in sleep technology or accepted to sit for the registry examination through one of the following: (ABSM) American Board of Sleep Medicine, (NBRC) National Board for Respiratory Care, (BRPT) Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists, or another organization that offers an equivalent examination accepted by the AASM

EXPERIENCE:

Required:  3 years of relevant experience, of which 1 year is in leadership or management

     Preferred:  2+ years of leadership experience

Required:  5 years of sleep medicine diagnostic testing and scoring

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills required
  • Knowledge of legal aspects of health care and business required
  • BLS Healthcare CPR Certification through the American Heart Association required
  • Knowledge of information systems including mainframe, PC applications, word processing, excel spreadsheets and email
  • Knowledge of AASM Accreditation and EEG Workflow preferred
