The Research Assistant will perform research activities using approved techniques. Conducts patient recruitment, administers questionnaires, abstracts medical records, maintains patient databases, performs administrative tasks, assists in grant preparation, performs literature searches and participates with the research team in preparation of data and other reports. May also assist the principal investigator with interpreting experimental results, and in preparing and writing manuscripts.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is part of a study entitled, “Treatment for Antepartum Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),” which aims to provide a psychosocial treatment for PTSD among pregnant patients ages 18-50.


The Research Assistant will assist with data collection by conducting clinical interviews and administering surveys; participant scheduling and correspondence; reviewing recorded clinical interviews; and attending team meetings.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the administrative aspects of the research study, including:

  • Administers questionnaires and assists study participants in navigating through questionnaires.
  • Conducts structured clinical interviews with participants.
  • Reviews recorded clinical interviews of other assessor to establish reliability in scoring.
  • Identify subjects with significant clinical concerns and relays this information to the Principal Investigator.
  • Maintains patient study files in accordance with legal and institutional guidelines.
  • Reviews the data collection forms for each enrollee for completion and quality.
  • Attends all required training and meetings of the research team, as instructed by Principal Investigator.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in staff meetings/initiatives including appropriate quality improvement and education activities, or if unable to attend non-mandatory activities, accepts responsibility to review meeting minutes and becomes knowledgeable of issues discussed.
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
  • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the hospital’s goals and mission.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION:

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Prefer experience in clinical research, public health experience or working with children and families.
    • Previous experience with recruiting subjects, with an understanding of the ethical and technical conduct of research preferred
    • Bilingual candidate preferred, not required, fluent in spoken and written English, Spanish, and/or Haitian Creole.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
    • Bilingual candidate preferred, not required, fluent in spoken and written English, Spanish, and/or Haitian Creole.
    • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers.  Experience with statistical software a plus.
    • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information.

    Compensation Range:

    $16.35- $22.84

    This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications.
