The Nursing Coordinator Registered Nurse (RN) – Total Joint Program Coordinator serves as the clinical coordinator for patients undergoing total hip, knee, and other joint replacement procedures. This role provides comprehensive patient education and care coordination throughout the surgical continuum, from pre-operative preparation through post-operative recovery. The RN supports program quality initiatives, outcomes tracking, regulatory requirements, and performance improvement activities while performing ambulatory nursing and office-based clinical duties within the orthopedic practice.


The Total Joint Program Coordinator acts as a liaison among patients, surgeons, advanced practice providers, rehabilitation services, and hospital departments to ensure a seamless, high-quality patient experience and optimal clinical outcomes.


Responsible for providing professional clinical assistance to patients within the practice supporting the physicians.  Responsible for performing all duties in accordance with clinic protocols and procedures. 


Patient Education & Care Coordination

  • Serve as the primary clinical contact for Total Joint Program patients across the surgical continuum.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative education to patients and caregivers, including surgical preparation, recovery expectations, rehabilitation, medication management, and discharge planning.
  • Coordinate care and facilitate communication among surgeons, physical therapy, care management, home health, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Conduct telephone triage and post-operative follow-up, reinforce care plans, and address barriers to recovery.

Quality & Data Management

  • Assists with Collecting, maintaining, and reporting Total Joint Program quality and outcomes data.
  • Works in collaboration with the physician leader & administration to monitor key performance metrics, including patient outcomes, satisfaction, readmissions, infections, and length of stay.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, accreditation activities, and orthopedic registry reporting.
  • Collaborate with physicians and leadership to identify opportunities for program enhancement and implementation of best practices.
  • Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards. 
  • Utilizes clinical teamwork to oversee the interdisciplinary plan of care: 
  • Assesses the patient and family as appropriate 
  • Plans and implements clinical care and facilitates its delivery to patients and family members Evaluates the process and outcome of clinical services in the practice and makes suggestions for improvement 
  • Documents according to practice policies and procedures 
  • Practices and promotes professional clinical care within legal and ethical standards 
  • Provides education/consultation as needed to other health care team members and to patients and families 
  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through identification of own learning needs 
  • Encourages an environment of teamwork with other employees. Demonstrates flexibility and creativity in dealing with unforeseen developments through participative leadership and problem solving 
  • Uses resources and completes assignments in the most cost-effective manner 
  • Willingly adapts to changing workloads and helps others when they are busy

  • Maintains professional license through practice-based continuing education programs 
  • Assists with determining appropriate staffing levels. Assists with recruitment efforts for new clinical staff.  Assists with evaluating clinical staff performance and completion of performance evaluations 
  • Assists with development and implementation of policies and procedures 
  • As a member of clinic management, ensures that the practice meets all code and accreditation standards (OSHA, DPH, JCAHO, CLIA, HIPAA) 
  • Triages telephone calls and schedules urgent care appointments. 
  • Performs other related duties as directed. 


Required Education and Experience

BSN in Nursing and at least 3 years in a clinical setting 


Preferred Experience in an office setting and/or with surgical care management.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

Current licensure in Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse. 


Compensation Range:

$69,500.00- $101,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
