JOB SUMMARY:

The Nurse Manager is responsible for operationalizing the core values of the organization by promoting patient and family-centered care. The Nurse Manager has twenty-four-hour accountability for patient triage, transfers, and overall management of the Labor and Delivery unit.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Maternal Child Health and the NICU Clinical Nurse Educator in strategic planning for the operational needs of the NICU, Labor and Delivery, and Mother Baby units.
  • Responsible for providing supervision, clinical expertise, mentoring, and role modeling to members of the nursing team. Conducts annual performance evaluations.
  • Acts as an expert clinical resource to the nursing staff in the varying aspects of neonatal care including the care management of the acutely ill neonates
  • Supervises and evaluates the care provided to patients within service specialty through audit processes and observation.
  • Conducts daily rounds on all assigned units including NICU inpatients and communicates findings with Neonatologist and staff.
  • Participates in JCAHO and regulatory agencies' accreditation processes and addresses safety and legal requirements established with emphasis on those pertinent to the NICU and the Division of Maternal Child Health.
  • Provides clinical support for the Division of Neonatology in collaboration with Chair of Pediatrics and the Medical Director, Neonatal ICU.
  • Monitors inpatient care and communicates with referring physicians and hospitals the condition of patients referred to the NICU and retro transfers.
  • Works with Chair of Pediatrics, Medical Director, and Neonatology attending physicians to identify clinical care delivery and quality metrics.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and at least 5 years of clinical experience in a level 3 NICU, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing ​

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Current license to practice Nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • BLS & NRP required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
    Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
