Position: Clinical Supervisor, Psychiatric Emergency Services

Location: Boston Medical Center - South, Behavioral Health

Schedule: 40 hours, Days

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Supervisor oversees and supervises Master’s-level clinicians providing psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and support to patients in the Boston Medical Center South Emergency Department. This role is responsible for the administrative and clinical management of daily operations, including staff scheduling, workflow oversight, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. Working under general direction, the Clinical Supervisor provides mentorship, clinical guidance, and backup support to staff, and is accountable for contributing to hiring, supervision, and performance management in collaboration with the Director of Behavioral Health Access. The role applies evidence-based clinical techniques to consult on, assess, and intervene with high-risk patients and families, addressing complex emotional and social needs. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Clinical Supervisor maintains a direct care component, delivering psychiatric emergency services through individual and family interventions to support patient stabilization and care outcomes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Master’s Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling required

At least 3 years of previous supervisory experience required

Experience providing behavioral health care in a medical setting preferred

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Requires a current Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker/Licensed Mental Health Counselor licensure

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:    

  • Skill in supervising and directing staff, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and providing clinical guidance and feedback to support care delivery.
  • Skill in coordinating care within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including collaboration with clinical and administrative stakeholders.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with healthcare professionals and to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Skill in applying clinical judgment to assess patient and family needs, develop care plans, and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, managing multiple priorities and urgent situations.
  • Ability to support delivery of care across diverse patient populations, including demonstrating cultural awareness in clinical interactions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; additional language proficiency may support patient care delivery.
  • Skill in interpreting clinical and operational data and applying insights to support decision-making and improve care delivery.
  • Ability to use standard computer applications and systems, including electronic medical records, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and web-based tools.

Compensation Range:

$61,500.00- $89,500.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
