We have two goals with this position: 1) to cover several on-call shifts at night from home and 2) to increase the number of per diem chaplains available to cover shifts when someone takes vacation, sick leave, etc.  Our preference will be for someone able to work Saturday and/or Sunday days in-hospital, but that is not required.  We have at least two weekly on-call shift to assign to a new per diem immediately and there is ability to pick up more due to vacations.  Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, or Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) language skills would be useful.  Based on our patient population, experience with Jewish and Muslim spiritual care would be preferred.  Just so you are aware, our per diem pay rates are set by the hospital and are $26/hour for in-hospital time and $4/hour for on-call periods.  There are no benefits attached to this position.

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in Theology/Religion/Philosophy
  • Minimum of 2 units of CPE accredited by ACPE, preference 4 units
  • Endorsement from an ecclesiastical body to which they belong
  • Knowledge and support for the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Facilities
  • Ability to cover on-call regularly from outside the hospital – requires ability to arrive at hospital within 30-45 minutes (minus traffic) of call
