POSITION SUMMARY:

The Virtual Education and Communications Manager exists to expand the reach and impact of the Nourishing Our Community program by driving virtual and digital communications, education, and resource development across BMC HealthSystem and the Greater Boston community. This position functions within the Nutrition Innovation and Implementation team to advance the program's strategic goal of increasing community access to nutrition education and health resources through digital channels. The role carries broad responsibility for planning, developing, and managing virtual content and communications initiatives that serve both internal program staff and external community audiences. Operating under general supervision of the Senior Manager of Nutrition Innovation and Implementation, the position exercises independent judgment in executing day-to-day communications and education strategies while aligning with broader program priorities. This role has no direct supervisory responsibility.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Lead all communications for the Nourishing Our Community program, including managing the external website, internal HUB content, Instagram social media channel, quarterly newsletters, and the annual impact report to ensure consistent and timely program visibility.
  • Plan and deliver virtual culinary nutrition programming across BMC HealthSystem, including initiatives connected to the Teaching Kitchen, rooftop farms, food pantry, and affiliated health centers (Mattapan, Brockton, and Dorchester), working both independently and in collaboration with program managers.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships across the health system to design and deliver digital education and learning opportunities at affiliated sites, including Mattapan Health Center, Brockton Health Center, and BMC South.
  • Provide operational support to the Senior Manager of Nutrition Innovation and Implementation related to Nourishing Our Community programming and associated research activities.
  • Create digital content that advances BMC's mission by communicating value-based procurement efforts, local partnerships, and community engagement initiatives to internal and external audiences.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field, plus a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in nutrition education, community health, or digital communications. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (If none, please enter “N/A”):

Experience working within a health system or community health setting; experience developing and managing digital communications strategies and virtual nutrition education programming; and familiarity with research activities or grant-supported community health programs.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED (If none, please enter “N/A”):

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), as credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), required to ensure clinical credibility, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of safe, evidence-based nutrition education across BMC HealthSystem and affiliated community health centers.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS PREFERRED (If none, please enter “N/A”):

Specialty certification in Food as Medicine, preferred.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs) (If none, please enter “N/A”):

  • Knowledge of nutrition science and evidence-based dietary practices, including their application in community and clinical health settings.

  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging virtual and in-person nutrition education programs to diverse community audiences.

  • Proficiency in digital communications tools and platforms, including social media, website content management systems, and virtual meeting and programming platforms.

  • Knowledge of culinary techniques and the ability to incorporate basic cooking principles into nutrition education and programming.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and verbal formats across a variety of audiences, including health system partners, community members, and organizational stakeholders.

Compensation Range:

$78,000.00- $113,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
