POSITION SUMMARY:

Boston Medical Center Health System is seeking a User Experience Design Specialist to join our digital team in the Marketing and Communications department who will be responsible for implementing user-centered design across various websites. 

Under the direction of the Director of User Experience, you will deliver design projects by partnering with stakeholders, content strategy and technology to research, design, and build experiences that align with client expectations and work within our content management systems.

The ideal candidate is experienced in website design and development processes, understands how to gather client requirements and is not afraid to challenge assumptions, and is familiar with design systems in Figma and in code. The ability to work in a fast-paced and growing environment is essential to this role.

Position: User Experience Design Specialist

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Maintain and assist with the creation and upkeep of the Figma design system and style guide.
  • Design and build pages across websites, including user testing, designing, developing wireframes and UI, image exploration, and prototyping.
  • Build user tests for discovery, validation, and optimizations with a keen know-how for how to take learnings and best integrate them into the work.
  • Serve as a user experience subject matter expert by staying on top of the latest UX/UI trends, techniques, and technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to discuss requirements, brainstorm UX/UI ideas, and present concepts.
  • Proactive website design management via troubleshooting bugs, incompatibilities across browsers, screen sizes and devices, and overall ensuring consistency of design across experiences.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present work to stakeholders for their review, feedback, and approval in-person, over Zoom, and through email.
  • Ensure safety and compliance to PHI standards throughout site experience.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Degree in Human Factors, UX, UI, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

None required but UX-related certifications will be considered in lieu of a degree

EXPERIENCE:

2-3 years of demonstrated UX experience, including discovery and design in a client-facing role.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Demonstrated expertise designing UX content, including gathering and defining user requirements, information architecture, and executing design.
  • Proficient in translating user feedback into actionable design tasks, ensuring all decisions have been validated prior to implementation.
  • Experienced in Figma, Drupal and Wordpress, particularly around design systems, creating high and low fidelity prototypes, and building designs within a CMS interface.
  • Experience managing websites that have strict editing / authoring rules and security criteria.
  • Understanding of full-cycle website design and development, including agile design.
  • Experience working within a team and as part of a marketing organization.
