Position: Unit Coordinator

Department: Geri/Psych

Schedule: Per Diem

Position Summary:

Provide technical assistance to the nursing staff and performing a variety of computer, clerical, scheduling and supply functions necessary for the operation of a 16-bed geriatric psychiatric care unit. Supports clinical staff with 15-min checks/continuous ligature rounds when possible

Responsibilities:

  • Receives and greets visitors, patients, and staff. Responds to questions appropriately, referring items in question to authorized staff.
  • Answers telephone promptly and in a courteous manner. Maintains positive communication with other departments.
  • Makes calls and places consults in Meditech as directed by physicians or the licensed practitioner.
  • Assists staff by running errands, delivering specimens, and paperwork as needed.
  • Keeps nurses informed of incoming reports, admission data, and messages.
  • Demonstrates awareness of DMH Patient Rights Criteria.
  • Assembles, labels, and organizes the medical record for patient admissions.
  • Secures records from previous admission as needed.

Requirements: 

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 1 year of clerical experience required.
    • Computer skills required.
    • Knowledge of medical-psychiatric terminology preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure:
    • BLS Certification required by DMH or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Must have CPR certification.
    • Mandatory De-escalation Education within 30 days of hire
  • Hardware/Software: Meditech
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
