Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for leading research projects and overseeing implementation of research projects in Pediatric Infectious Diseases to achieve the defined goals and scientific objectives. Functions independently as PI, Co-PI, or investigator, strategizing with the co-investigators (with a dotted line to Division Administrator).

Responsibilities include overseeing research projects for which the individual is Principal Investigator, Co-principal Investigator or investigator. The Senior Research Manager will focus on management of the grant-funded research projects including developing study protocols, writing Institutional Review Board protocols; oversee training of research personnel; contributing to manuscripts and presentations; ensure compliance with reporting to  funders and coordinate with collaborators.  The Senior Research Manager will monitor budget expenditures in collaboration with division administrator and investigators.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Program Support:

  • Manage day-to-day operations and overall coordination projects and as needed, subcontracts. 
  • Monitors and modifies program procedures and policies to ensure compliance with all government regulations, and in alignment with the organization's mission. Monitors study quality, including staff training.
  • Monitoring/reporting of significant adverse events and protocol deviations.
  • Participates and leads weekly investigator meetings and staff meetings as well as other meetings with the staff across sites. 
  • Organizes/participates in meetings with the Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) members.

Management:

  • Oversees up to 6 study staff (which includes students and student workers).
  • Provides necessary ongoing training and technical support to ensure the project is being completed in a safe, professional, and productive manner.
  • Assists in the recruitment, hiring (budget approved at the Director level), training, supervision, coordination, and performance of staff, as well as annual overall staff performance.
  • Works with the Principal Investigator in developing and determining the budgetary requirements of the program. Maintains budget-related documents, including preparation of Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) and Carryover and No-cost extension requests.
  • Monthly budget review of multi-site study with PI and post-award manager, preparing draft yearly budget and justifications, reviewing budget and justifications of other sites, preparing the carryover requests, meeting with the NIH grants award officer for more complex budgetary issues.

Administrative:

  • Develops procedures to ensure timely and accurate data collection.
  • Compiles quantitative and qualitative data to determine the status of study recruitment and retention and timely completion of measures at designated time points. Writes the progress reports for submission to all external funding agencies/sponsors.
  • Serves as the department administrative expert with regard to compliance policies & departmental procedures. Maintains pre and post-award policy and procedures manuals.
  • Monitors and maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment.  Purchases products as needed within the established budget.
  • Schedules meetings, coordinates audio-visual and technology requirements, orders food/beverages, etc., as needed.
  • Conduct literature searches, maintain endnote libraries, and assist with manuscript and presentation preparation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in business management or field related to the project.
  • Advanced degree a plus or relevant years of experience.
  • Medical Degree is a plus

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in a research (bench, laboratory or clinical research) related field.  Prior supervisory experience required.  Prior experience with financial management and data collection systems.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience with supervising and training research assistants, project coordinators, and students.
  • Experience managing NIH research grant budgets.
  • Experience leading data safety monitoring meetings and completing reports.
  • Experience completing NIH regulatory documents.
  • Experience leading team meetings.
  • Coordination and supervision of research activities for clinical trials.
  • Proficiency with Excel, report creation and writing.

Compensation Range:

$83,000.00- $120,500.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
