Position: Research Coordinator, General Internal Medicine (Gout Study)       

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Hybrid (2 days per week in-office)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The research coordinator will be responsible for day-to-day coordination and overall management of activities related to  the TRUST trial (Treat-to-Target Serum Urate versus Treat-to-Avoid Symptoms in Gout). The TRUST trial will test two different treatment strategies for managing gout. This is a full-time position. A time commitment of 2 years is strongly preferred.

Duties include the training/supervision of research staff, managing research databases for regular reporting on enrollment and study progress, serving as study liaison with the IRB, and assisting with financial management of the project, including purchasing needed supplies and equipment. The research coordinator will participate in developing recruitment strategies and materials and will assist with preparation of research reports and presentations. He/she will assist the clinical research coordinators in their roles as needed.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Research Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the PIs in recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of research staff. Tracks research assistant certifications, NIH trainings, and continuing education for direct reports.
  • Responsible for personnel administration functions including preparing evaluations, tracking hours worked, vacations, leaves of absence, collecting time sheets, submitting hours to payroll, and scheduling of shifts and meetings.
  • Assures adherence to study protocols, policies, procedures, and human subjects regulations and provides ongoing supervision and management of all study activities.
  • Liaisons with Institutional Review Board (IRB) to facilitate approval of projects, ongoing documentation and reporting.
  • Assists with new grant proposal development, and preparation of research reports and presentations.

OTHER:

  • Plans, tracks, and reports on project tasks, responsible parties, timelines, etc.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with research team and collaborators (e.g. meeting minutes, scheduling, booking)
  • Maintain electronic and paper study binders to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Assist with patient interactions as needed (patient recruitment, completing informed consent, study visits)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree is required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years’ clinical research or public health experience
  • May consider 3 years of experience for candidates with a Master’s degree.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of social/behavioral science research methods, principles. Knowledge of program evaluation is helpful.
  • Previous experience with IRB submissions preferred
  • Ability to perform basic data management tasks (coding, data entry, data cleaning, retrieval). 
  • Ability to perform basic data analysis and reporting (in words, numbers and graphics). Experience using quantitative data analysis software helpful (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Minitab). 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. 

This position is grant funded. There may be opportunity beyond this grant funding for position integration into ongoing operations.
