Position: Research Assistant, Nephrology       

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, On-site

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented full-time Research Assistant to join a translational vascular biology and kidney disease research laboratory. The successful candidate will participate in ongoing projects focused on chronic kidney disease (CKD), vascular biology, thrombosis, dialysis access dysfunction, and transplantation-related complications.

The candidate will work closely with faculty investigators, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and clinical collaborators in a multidisciplinary research environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Research Assistant will assist with day-to-day laboratory operations and experimental studies, including:

Basic Molecular and Cell Biology Techniques

  • Mammalian cell culture and maintenance
  • Cell stimulation and treatment experiments
  • Western blotting and protein analysis
  • DNA/RNA extraction and quantification
  • Agarose DNA gel electrophoresis
  • PCR and qPCR techniques
  • Immunostaining and microscopy support
  • Sample preparation and laboratory inventory management

Animal Work

  • Mouse handling and colony maintenance
  • Genotyping and breeding management
  • Assistance with animal procedures and tissue harvesting
  • Record keeping and compliance with IACUC protocols
  • Monitoring animal health and maintaining accurate colony databases

General Laboratory Responsibilities

  • Preparation of reagents and buffers
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Organization of laboratory supplies and ordering
  • Data recording and basic analysis
  • Assisting with manuscript figures, presentations, and laboratory meetings
  • Supporting trainees and collaborative projects

Human project

  • Sample preparation and submission for assay
  • Result analysis
  • Preparation of slides

MS preparation

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior hands-on laboratory experience in academic or industry settings required
  • Experience with basic molecular biology and cell culture techniques required
  • Experience with rodent handling and animal protocols preferred
  • Experience with western blotting and PCR preferred
  • Familiarity with sterile technique and tissue culture preferred
  • Experience with image analysis software or statistical tools preferred
  • Interest in translational biomedical research and pursuing graduate or medical training preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Attention to detail and commitment to scientific rigor

      Compensation Range:

      $16.35- $22.84

      This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
