Department: Outpatient Surgery Center- North Easton
Schedule: Per Diem
Position Summary:
The Ambulatory Surgery RN provides care that addresses the specific needs of age groups from infant to elderly, and is
also individualized to a variety of needs specific to impairments such as hearing, sight, substance abuse, non-English
speaking, and potential victims of abuse. The Ambulatory Surgery RN incorporates knowledge and understanding of our
commitment to patient rights, our mission, vision and values into nursing practice at Good Samaritan Medical Center.
Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in ambulatory clinic settings in accordance with the
medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and
families in accordance within the scope of the RN as defined by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strengths will be patient surveillance for early recognition and immediate emergency treatment of medical or surgical
complications that may arise in any pre procedural/postoperative patient.
2. Adhere to personnel policies which specify privileges and responsibilities of employment, including: compliance with
an adverse incident reporting system, quality improvement program, patient safety initiatives, and risk management
program.
3. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital. Supports the center’s mission by
providing flexibility in assignment changes, dependability in attendance, punctuality, timely completion of assignments.
4. Interacts with patients, fellow employees, physicians, and other stakeholders in a manner which encourages quality
patient care, harmonious working relationships, positive customer relations, and enhances the image and reputation of
the center.
5. Displays willingness to speak up about safety issues or change practices to enhance safety.
6. Maintains a professional image through proper attire, language, and conduct.
7. Maintains high level of confidentiality at all times.
8. Has knowledge of patient rights and strives to improve patient outcomes by respecting each patient’s cultural,
psychosocial, and spiritual values.
9. Knowledge of applicable regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards and requirements.
10. Effective problem solving skills to include data analysis and judgment to make effective decisions.
11. High Impact Communication - effective oral and written communication skills.
12. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, high stress/pressure, handles emergency or crisis situations, regular
interaction with emotional patients and/or family members.
13. Plan, provide and document professional nursing care in ambulatory settings, utilizing the nursing process, in
accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, under the supervision of the nurse manager,
charge nurse or practice manager.
14. Collect and analyze patient data, make recommendations for nursing care plans, evaluate nursing care provided,
document and communicate appropriately nursing actions taken and patient responses.
15. Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
16. Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of patient care and serve as a team leader. Monitor and initiate
corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
17. Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and
seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
18. Support the development of other staff and formal learners.
19. Participate in the identification of clinical, operational and safety related performance improvement opportunities.
20. Participate in clinic or entity level performance improvement activities.
21. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
22. Obtains a complete nursing assessment, reassessment with chart documentation on all patients.
23. Responsible for ongoing clinical management of the patient, promotes and participates in patient education and
teaching and administers medications, and IV therapy, and perform venipuncture.
24. Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the surgical services department.
25. Maintains accurate and legible documentation to ensure accountability for assessments and patient plan of care and
accurate patient charging.
26. Evaluates the management of patient care activities, validates and is accountable that nursing and physician orders
are implemented.
27. Pursues own professional growth through continuing education and in-services and provides leadership.
28. Communicates effectively and professionally with peers, supervisors, ancillary departments and all other
external/internal customers.
29. Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services and procedural areas to assist in the
smooth operation of the departments and maintain competencies as appropriate.
30. Demonstrates a willingness to listen to others and openly expresses respect for differing opinions.
31. Demonstrates leadership, effective organizing, and planning skills and charge duties.
32. Demonstrates attention to detail by ensuring that all documentation is legible, complete, and accurate.
33. Demonstrates dependability and accountability.
34. Demonstrates a willingness to help others and asks for help when needed.
35. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
36. Ability to move quickly in response to patient needs;
37. Ability to make constant/frequent judgment/response to problems.
38. Ability to build trust and gain respect through effective team leadership and participation skills and act as resource to
other Nursing Leaders.
