POSITION SUMMARY:
The Psychiatric Nurse Manager supervises and manages health services by providing effective leadership and direction to medical/nursing department staff as well as providing direct medical services as needed to all individuals served. This role is responsible for ensuring consistencies in the standard of practice across clinical settings and will provide quality management, risk management, and utilization review as required. The incumbent will work cooperatively with management staff to ensure a safe clinical environment for individuals served, employees and visitors. It is expected that this salaried position will be available by telephone when off-site as and/or if needed.

Department: Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC) and Outpatient Psychiatry
Schedule: Full Time
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
The CBHC and Outpatient Nurse manager role is a clinical role with administrative responsibilities. This job will be 50% clinical and 50% Administrative.
1. Lead activities related to clinical nursing services ensuring patient needs are met in accordance with professional standards of medical and nursing care as mandated federally and by Massachusetts
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing/clinical methods to ensure effective and efficient use of staff, facilities, equipment, and other resources while maintaining patient care standards; revise policies as needed.
3. Provide direct patient care, including discharge visits, refill coordination, medication monitoring, physical assessment, mental status and those directed by the Medical Director.
4. Participate in innovative approach to deliver wrap around services for patients with urgent mental health needs.
5. Develop infrastructure to implement nursing care in urgent care mental health clinic (CBHC)
6. Ensure safe, effective and efficient use of staff, facilities, equipment, and other resources while maintaining patient care standards; revise policies as needed.
7. Consult with Medical Director on patient care or nursing problems and interpret center policies to ensure consumer needs are met.
8. Participate in treatment team meetings providing input or recommendations on clients’ medical and psychiatric conditions.
9. Engage in clinical nursing investigations related to improving the delivery of services or lapses in the coordination of care.
10. Provide on-going guidance and direction to agency staff in emergency medical or clinical situations.
11. Ensure regular inspections and proper safeguards of equipment, supplies, storage of medications, and medical records.
12. Recruit, hire, and train staff in the Nursing department, overseeing the orientation of new staff to their respective positions and supervises and evaluates the performance of the staff in the department.
13. Administratively and clinically supervise all Registered Nurses and Medical Assistants in the CBHC clinic and Outpatient Psychiatry
14. Ensure that all staff meet or exceed productivity requirements.
15. Encourages continuous development of staff in the department and provides in-service training as needed.
16. Ensures nursing personnel provide whole person assessments and treatments (medication, diet, rehabilitative nursing care, activities of daily living, safety, training in self-care, etc.), and ensures that optimal comfort and care is provided to each individual served.
17. Ensure that the system for documenting nursing services provided to individuals served is in compliance with regulations and standards
18. Serve as the Center’s Infection Control Monitor (while delegating reporting and teaching duties as needed to other nursing personnel) and ensure any incidents of non-compliance are immediately addressed.
19. Perform record audits monthly to ascertain proper documentation of care given and counsels employees on proper documentation.
20. Ensure quality assurance data is maintained, and reports are prepared for the Quality Improvement Director and committee.
21. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team with the implementation of annual emergency training and emergency preparedness training.
22. Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with other senior management, outside agencies, and the medical and mental health community.
23. Knowledge of Faster Paths and ability to triage Psychiatric emergencies and Urgent care
24. Ability to and / or Expertise in administering Psychiatric medications including Injectables in a clinic setting
25. May perform other duties as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program (BSN) required. MSN preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Work requires current Massachusetts RN license. Certification in Mental Health or related specialty area is a plus
EXPERIENCE:
Work requires a minimum of three years clinical experience as a Nurse - could include medical-surgical nursing or any other valid/relevant experience in Nursing.
Work requires a minimum of one-year clinical experience in behavior health, mental health, Psychiatry (inpatient or outpatient) experience. 1 year minimum in Psychiatric nursing or related fields, can be inclusive of the total 3 years in nursing. Psych ED or Behavioral Urgent care experience a plus
Minimum 1 year of management or supervisory experience required in any setting. May be a charge-nurse or manager. Experience supervising medical assistants, or their training is a plus. Charge nurses or educators looking to advance role are encouraged to apply
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: s
Knowledge of safety, Quality and regulation in Behavioral health. State regulations a plus
Ability to see patients independently for Nurse visits including documentation and Team updates and follow-up
Must be a pro-active and independent; able to organize themselves and the clinic
Weekend and evening coverage might be possible at times
