POSITION SUMMARY:
The Incidentaloma Institute ensures timely and clinically appropriate care for patients with radiographic findings through identification, surveillance, referral, evaluation, treatment, and/or monitoring. We are looking for a dedicated ambulatory Physician Assistant, who will support the Incidentaloma Institute’s clinic, attendings, advance practice providers, nursing, and patient care pathways. Under direct supervision of the clinic’s physician network, this candidate will be monitoring Best Practice Advisories from Radiology, capturing and triaging referrals, and delivering high-quality medical care in a collaborative environment.
Key functions include but are not limited to obtaining complete medical history and performing a physical examination, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies, formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan, prescribing and/or dispensing medication, counseling patients and families, as well as other patient care duties. This candidate may be involved in any other role that the attending physician deems appropriate and consistent with applicable law, hospital regulations, delineation of privileges, and the Physician Assistant's training, knowledge, skills, or experience.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Qualified Physician Assistants will hold at least a Bachelor's degree and must be a graduate of a PA Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) or its predecessor.
In order to apply for the position, the PA must be National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) PANCE eligible and eligible for PA licensure in the State of Massachusetts. Documentation of Massachusetts PA license and initial NCCPA certification are required upon hire. If prescribing medications is included in clinical duties and privileges, Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required. ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) is preferred.
Prior work experience in a surgical setting is preferred.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
In collaboration with attending physicians, evaluates, treats, and discharges patients of the Incidentaloma Institute’s clinic and the subspecialties it partners with.
Offers flexibility in a hybrid clinic model, with both in-person and telemedicine visits.
Works across multiple subspecialties, primarily Surgical Oncology (hepatobiliary), Endocrinology (adrenal/thyroid), Urology (renal), and Gynecology (adnexal) incidental lesions.
Retrieves, monitors, and interprets Best Practice Advisories from Radiology, as well as direct referrals to the Incidentaloma Institute.
Tracks patient care transitions and ensures timely clinical evaluation and intervention.
Triages patients into clinic visits with the appropriate provider type, visit type, and subspecialty.
Initiates and/or conducts incidentaloma work-up prior to physician evaluation and subsequent treatment. Follows clinical guidelines and protocols provided by each subspecialty MD.
Works with subspecialty MDs to examine patients and establish care plans.
Coordinates appropriate follow-up per Incidentaloma Institute care guidelines.
Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate multidisciplinary incidentaloma care.
Documents patient interactions, diagnoses, and treatment plans in the hospital’s electronic medical records and any additional patient trackers provided by the Incidentaloma Institute.
Performs and/or interprets routine diagnostic studies, including routine laboratory procedures, common radiological studies, and electrocardiograph tracings.
Performs therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, wound care, suturing, incision and drainage of superficial infections, and wound debridement.
Assists in the delivery of services to patients requiring continuous care by acting as liaison with primary care, attending providers, or referring providers.
Facilitates communication with other departments to ensure the delivery of cost-effective and efficient patient care.
Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
Records and maintains legible, accurate, and confidential patient medical records including initial evaluation, subsequent follow-up, unusual incidents or problems, and patient progress to provide complete and up-to-date information for ongoing reference and evaluation.
Under the counter-signature of the attending physician, is responsible for transcribing pre-operative and post-operative orders, including prescription medication, fluid orders, diets, activity levels, and other procedures, as authorized by applicable law and department protocol.
May be authorized to write appropriate prescription orders, including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs, as well as pre- and post-operative orders.
Ensures treatment and consultations consistent with NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance), TJC (The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), and federal and state regulatory standards.
Attends and participates in regular staff meetings. Helps clinic managers drive performance improvement with regard to their own role and scope of work.
Ensures professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and practices.
Maintains patient confidentiality and conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care can be provided.
Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
Utilizes the hospital’s cultural beliefs as a basis for decision making and supports the organization’s mission and goals.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required in order to relay complex medical information to patients and their families, physicians, staff, and community health workers. Time management, attention to detail, multitasking, and overall organization skills are key to this job.
