Position: Pharmacy Clinical Specialist- Hematology/Oncology

Department: Pharmacy

Schedule: Full-Time, Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Oncology Clinical Manager ensures optimum patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing the drug therapy of patients. Provides drug information to patients and families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professional. Integrally involved in education of pharmacists, residents and students. Serves as a resource and drug expert in hematology/oncology. Strives to increase knowledge through research and writing activities. The Clinical Specialist may also be involved, as necessary, in coordinating the acquisition, distribution and control of drug therapy for patients under the care of the pharmacist.

This position specifically will cover the stem cell transplant as well as the cellular and gene therapy program.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Requires a Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy with an advanced degree, and a PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residency or at least three years of equivalent work experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Work requires a valid license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. MA pharmacist licensure must be complete and verified by the date of hire.  

Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BCOP) certification is preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Deep knowledge of medications, their effects, drug interactions, medical procedures and therapies, diagnosis and disease states required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with hospital staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, colleagues, and others.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks and meet deadlines
  • An organized work style and ability to keep well written documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additional language skills can be a plus.
  • Must possess self-management skills and require little to no supervision. This person must be a self-starter, self-motivating, have a strong work ethic and must have the ability to identify issues or opportunities that require attention and change.
  • Must possess and exhibit process improvement skills and acumen.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers
