POSITION SUMMARY:


The Parent Mentor provides personal finance and career coaching support alongside Street Cred Financial Community Wellness Advocates to parents of newborn infants in a pediatric clinic setting. This role combines financial literacy education with career guidance to support new parents in managing their changing economic circumstances.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Provide support and assistance by facilitating one-on-one and/or group coaching sessions on personal finance basics and career planning under the supervision and partnership of the Street Cred Financial Community Wellness Advocates
  • Develop and conduct group workshops on budgeting, saving, and career development
  • Create and distribute educational materials tailored to new parents' needs
  • Connect clients with community resources for further financial and career assistance
  • Maintain confidential records of client interactions and progress
  • Collaborate with pediatric clinic staff to integrate services seamlessly
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in personal finance, career counseling, or related fields  
  • Ability to explain complex financial concepts in simple terms
  • Empathy and understanding of challenges faced by new parents
  • Bilingual skills (depending on community needs) may be preferred
  • Other duties as assigned by Financial Community Wellness Advocate
  • Must adhere to the BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED required

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

N/A

EXPERIENCE:

Experience with Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Knowledge of financial literacy curricula and training programs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
