POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Radiology Financial Operations, the Manager of Financial & Physician Operations leads and manages the operational activities for assigned sections/modalities, locations, and support areas. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibilities are managing all day-to-day community hospitals’ physician operations including physician schedules for the delivery of care, human resource management, assisting with capital and operational budgets, equipment oversight, financial and physician productivity management, and performance improvement activities. 

The individual maintains collaborative multidisciplinary relationships within and outside of the medical group. The incumbent participates as an important member of the practice management team to address and resolve broad management/administrative issues such as planning for future programs and services, imaging exam and procedure professional coding and revenue capture, cost monitoring and control, physician scheduling, workflows, operational monitoring, regulatory compliance, public relations and the overall timeliness and quality of services provided to customers in across the service line. The Manager consults and collaborates with other members of leadership to ensure the effective integration of strategic objectives, performance management, quality and improvement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Provides administrative oversight and business management support for all professional practice management-related issues impacting radiology services at community hospitals (Boston Medical Center - Brighton and Boston Medical Center - South), including physician coverage strategy, assisting with contractual relationships, new service feasibility, response to Request for Proposals and strategic partnerships, and staffing analyses
  •  Responsible for financial planning, reporting, analytics, revenue cycle, and budgets
  • Oversees physician practice financial performance and ensures real-time financial information is available to the physician leadership, and administrative leadership
  • Monitors physician practice operational performance standards
  • Reviews internal and external business operations, market conditions, health plan activity and reimbursement models, information transfer, and other key operational indicators
  • Develops optimal physician staffing models to meet operational needs and budgetary constraints.
  • Responsible for reviewing benchmark data and making appropriate changes to improve performance.
  • Administers the physician compensation plan to drive operational and financial performance of the practice.
  • Provides direct on-site and remote administrative support as needed to ensure proper coordination of various business activities of the practice
  • Maintains regular communication between practice and leadership on important operational and strategic matters
  • Participates and stays actively engaged in both local and national hospital-based radiology specialty related trends, business community, and related activities
  • Develops and implements plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of the practice
  • Coordinates strategic planning, business development activities, financial management, and policy enforcement
  • Meets with practices’ non-physician leadership on a regular basis to review trends and progress, to share information relative to progression of goals, and to facilitate strong lines of communication throughout all areas of the Community Radiology Division
  • Key liaison with various hospital/site physician leaders and key hospital administrators to represent and promote business affairs for the radiology service line
  • Oversees practice’s monthly, quarterly, and annual operational and financial scorecard reporting and monitoring
  • Ensures practice has real-time financial performance information, working closely with Radiology Service Line administrative leadership
  • Maintains an open line of communication with staff and reports on practice operational status and strategic plans on a periodic basis
  • Works with Human Resources to ensure effective human resource management for the practice including recruitment, performance management, employee engagement, training and development, as well as compliance with corporate and human resources policies and procedures
  • Partners with the Risk Management and Quality to ensure that processes, policies, procedures, and metrics are properly executed, tracked, and met within the Division
  • Accountable for physician scheduling management to ensure coverage needs are met.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Background in finance
  • Background in radiology and practice operations

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

More than 5 years of experience, knowledge and understanding of business operations and decision support systems in a multi-specialty physician practice, or hospital-based or academic medical center setting, with a focus on Radiology, Imaging Services, and/or Ambulatory Operations

  • Operational and financial management — including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analytics for physician practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including ability to review quantitative and qualitative data and reach sound, strategic conclusions
  • Working knowledge of practice reimbursement accounts receivable and practice management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and embrace new challenges
  • Strategic planning and business development — such as evaluating new services and developing partnerships.
  • Human resources and physician practice management, including staffing models, performance improvement, and compensation plan administration.
  • Regulatory compliance (e.g., Joint Commission, DPH, CMS) and quality and risk management integration.
  • Cross-functional leadership — collaborating effectively with hospital executives, physician leaders, and multidisciplinary teams. Experience managing multi-site imaging operations or service line expansion is highly desirable. Familiarity with Epic Radiant, PACS/RIS, and financial data reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Strata, or similar) preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiology and imaging operations, including workflow design, modality coordination, regulatory compliance (Joint Commission, DPH, CMS), and patient safety standards.
  • Strong financial and business management skills, including budgeting, revenue cycle oversight, performance analysis, and physician compensation modeling.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and implement effective operational improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with physicians, hospital leadership, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated project and change management capability, including the ability to plan, execute, and evaluate complex initiatives across multiple sites or modalities.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically, balancing long-term growth objectives with daily operational performance in a dynamic healthcare environment.
