POSITION SUMMARY:
The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation of care for patients and their families. Accountable for clinical, educational, quality and fiscal outcomes. Consistently and effectively utilizes all steps of the nursing process to provide safe and appropriate care to patient/family.
Position: Hematology-Oncology Triage Nurse
Department: Cancer Care
Schedule: 40 Hours (Days)
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
- Answering triage calls for refills and medical issues
- VNA and hospice referrals
- Requests for Prior Authorizations
- In-patient admission referrals and arranging dates
-Port placements and education
- Tace, RFA admissions and bookings
- Urgent admissions such as chemo and desensitization admissions
- Triage walk-in patients that require pain control, hydration, and other urgent requests
- Answer faxes and requests called in from outside pharmacies
- Answer in-basket requests from patients and providers
- Assist clinic MD with port draws for labs, injections and medications such as hormonal therapies and vaccines
- Dressings changes and wound care as required
- Phlebotomy consents and arrangements with short stay
- Medical equipment orders
- Checking narcotic state web site, regulating refills, and getting required signatures for dispensing prescriptions
- Writing letters to patients
- Bra and prosthesis ordering
Assisting with time-outs for bone marrows
- Lovenox teaching
- Assisting patients to the ER if unstable or during emergencies
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred), Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Registration and current RN licensure in the state of MA in good standing required.
Professional certification highly encouraged. CPR certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
Certification in geriatrics/community health/case management preferred.
