POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, patient care, direction and strategic expansion of the Brockton behavioral health facility. Works closely with the Chair of Psychiatry,  Chief Nursing Officer and other executives, and collaborates with the respective service line Chiefs and fellow service line directors to ensure successful excellent care at the facility, through management of regulatory and accreditation bodies, organizational structure, clinical protocols, and hiring and onboarding of the staff.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Responsible for leading  BMC Brockton Behavioral Health services, which includes 3 secured inpatient psychiatry units and a 26-bed Clinical Stabilization Service (CSS) unit

  • Directs, coordinates, and manages all aspects of the behavioral health treatment programming at the center. Manages a budget of approximately $23M and oversees a staff of 200 people

  • Works with the Chief of Psychiatry and Medical Directors of psychiatry, addiction medicine and nursing to maintain an environment committed to the highest standards of quality care, patient safety and customer service by identifying and implementing innovative approaches to improving care.

  • Designs procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of the Behavioral Health program’s treatment process to assure the program goals and objectives, patient needs and compliance with all applicable quality standards we well as federal, state, and local licensure requirements, codes and regulations are being met.

  • Develops quarterly reporting mechanisms inclusive of operations, financial and growth metrics.

  • Participate in local and state-wide behavioral health task force meetings.

  • Performs regular Leader Rounding on all units and responds to facility emergencies, as needed.

  • Works collaboratively to develop appropriate operational metrics as they relate to physician practices and service line expansion.

  • Participates in hospital operations and performance improvement committees.

  • Collaborates with Chiefs, service line directors, and nursing leadership, especially on program planning, budgeting, recruitment, office and space allocation.

  • Collaborates for capital planning relative to Behavioral Health service lines in collaboration with each clinical Vice President, Chief, and RN leadership.

  • Participates in recruitment of physicians and key leaders within the service line.

  • Adheres to DMH, DPH, TJC and BSAS licensing and operating standards.

  • Oversees vendor relationships.

  • Ensures proper and economical use of equipment, supplies and facilities for maintaining patient care.

  • Fosters a culture of safety through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.

  • Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).

  • Is intentional about fostering and operationalizing a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion among both staff and patients

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Master’s degree in a Behavioral Health related discipline required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required:

Active independent license in a Behavioral health field in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Five to seven years of progressively responsible management experience in a Behavioral Health organization

  • Experience with patient care in a psychiatric and substance use disorder setting.

  • Ability to foster a healing environment that is respectful, diverse and inclusive for patients and staff.

  • Ability to problem-solve and work collaboratively towards defined patient care outcomes.

  • Broad-based health care operational experience; Demonstrated knowledge of various health systems and cost reduction strategies.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the patient populations served.

  • Self-directed, self-starter and able to implement new programs.

  • Demonstrated ability as an effective leader.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply principles of adult learning to provide education to clinical and auxiliary staff.

  • Analytical ability to solve clinical issues and conduct quality improvement and research projects.

  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently to complete assigned workload.

  • Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served

  • Ability to manage stress due to critical patient care issues, changing organizational climate and personnel issues.

  • Multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to patient populations served by the Medical Center is highly desirable.

  • Ability to work on-call 24/7, as appropriate.
