POSITION SUMMARY:

Boston Medical Center Health System is seeking an innovative and accomplished Experience Strategist and Designer to join our digital team in the Marketing and Communications department. As the Director of User Experience, you will be responsible for delivering end-to-end experiences that patients desire and want to engage with.

Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Digital and Content Strategy, you will elevate and grow our in-house design capabilities, lead design initiatives from concept through execution and evaluation, and identify key insights and deliver strategic recommendations. The ideal candidate has led a design team of UX, content, analytics and SEO across a large, complex website / product that serves multiple personas. The Director must be able to work closely with hospital and system counterparts to gather goals, requirements, and user needs, and deliver quick wins while planning longer-term strategies. The ability to work in a fast-paced and growing environment is essential to this role.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Act as a leader, helping to build a supportive culture of learning and experimentation.
  • Elevate and grow our in-house UX skills across user testing and analytics, IA, content strategy, wireframing and prototyping, and design system maintenance.
  • Oversee and mentor team of content strategy, analytics, and design, providing guidance, feedback, and supporting their professional growth and development, as well as managing our agency and freelance partner relationships.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of a comprehensive design system, ensuring consistency and coherence across all touchpoints.
  • Oversee user experience research activities, including user interviews, surveys, and usability testing to gather insights and identify areas for improvement.
  • Synthesize research into a strategic approach and deliver key artifacts that can be shared with the working team and executive leadership.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and analytics data to measure the effectiveness of design solutions and drive continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ideate and deliver best practice, responsive design across a myriad of initiatives from full website refreshes to individual hospital department requests and marketing campaigns.
  • Establish processes that ensure design is fully delivered from concept to production through collaboration with project management, technology and content teams.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business objectives, user needs, and technical constraints, and effectively communicate design recommendations and trade-offs.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships within the Marketing and Communications department, and across the organization.
  • Advise across BMCHS on larger digital initiatives out of the CIO/CDO including CRM
  • Ensure safety and compliance to PHI standards throughout site experience
  • Must adhere to and demonstrate BMC’s mission and core values.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in human factors, user experience, or other related field.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • None

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10-15 years of demonstrated UX experience, including information architecture, prototyping, design thinking, wireframes, and taxonomy planning
  • 2-5 years of team lead experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Experience as a team leader, including managing direct reports and external agency partners.
  • Experience managing websites that have strict editing / authoring rules and security criteria
  • Robust understanding of full-cycle website development
  • Working knowledge of and interest in mobile and digital technologies
  • Strong experience in agile working methods and tools
  • Demonstrated success collaborating, partnering, and facilitating at all levels and across all functions of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage large projects, meet deadlines and produce deliverables in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Figma and Drupal (or similar content management system including decoupled and headless CMS)
