POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting in coordinating, managing, planning, supporting, and administering all clinical, academic, and research activities related to educational programs in the Department of Surgery.

Position: Department of Surgery- Medical Student Coordinator       

Department: General Surgery

Schedule: Full Time

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Responsible for assisting in coordinating, managing, planning, supporting, and administering all clinical, academic, and research activities related to educational programs in the Department of Surgery.

  • Coordinates and facilitates sessions with the medical students, residents and fellows

  • Develops new curricular material, especially web-based interactive modules

  • Creates an educational website updating/archiving the departmental correlation conferences

  • Tabulates student clerkship evaluations for final grading

  • Distributes evaluative summary feedback to faculty and residents

  • Assist the educational program manager with logistics of the educational activities for medical students, residents and fellows.

  • Enhance the orientation material provided to students on the first day

  • Help develop a Course Info site for student use

  • Proctors the final examination for clerkship students per NBME standards

  • Assist with individual student evaluations/clerkship evaluations/grading of students

  • Utilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.

  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

  • Coordinates and tracks workflow, schedules, projects and committee decisions.  Provides follow up as necessary.

  • Establishes and maintains files according to records management specifications.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. (ex. databases maintenance, scheduling departmental conferences)

  • Assists during annual recruitment season of residents and fellows.

  • Must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Associates Degree required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two to three years of related experience. Experience with MS Office (Excel).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written). Good interpersonal skills.
