Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Data and Research Coordinator will participate in all aspects of research, data collection, and operations in the Violence Intervention Advocacy Program. Is responsible for managing multiple projects in the Violence Intervention Advocacy Program, including IRB application to data collection and study completion. Must be a self-directed individual with excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to operate efficiently within tight time-frames, be detail oriented with excellent follow-through, and possess high competence with computer software relevant to research.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for development of data management protocols and oversight of data management systems. Ability to undertake research projects, analyze data, and summarize findings.

  • Abstracts data points from medical records and enters/documents in VIAP database

  • Involvement in all aspects of research projects in VIAP.  This includes development and coordination of study protocols, IRB submission, data entry, database creation and management and data analysis.

  • Must be able to perform in SAS, SPSS and/or basic statistical analysis basic dataset creation and manipulation (i.e. data management), descriptive statistics, chi-squared tests, t-tests, as well as linear and logistic regressions. Will work directly with department’s bio-statistician on major analyses.

  • Assist in preparation of research reports, abstracts, and presentations and in grant writing and submission

  • Conduct manuscript preparation and submission with research collaborators from BU, the HAVI, and other partners

  • Assists staff in operations of data collection,  management, and database training and performs all necessary administrative activities

  • Works on ongoing research projects as determined by the Clinical Director. Organizes and disseminates data and findings to collaborative partners as needed

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s required.   MPH, Epidemiology or other related Masters’ degree preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in statistical programming (STATA, SAS, R)

  • Experience managing a clinical database preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of program evaluation and research. 

  • Basic statistical analysis skills. Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems

  • Must be able to operate efficiently within tight time-frames; be detail oriented with excellent follow-through.

  • Ability to undertake research projects, analyze data, and summarize findings.

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus. Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.

  • Proficient with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers.
