POSITION SUMMARY:
The Coding Education Specialist is responsible for assisting with design, development, and delivery of all Coding Quality and Education components for all areas supported by Professional Billing. This individual is a member of a cross functional team, which includes practice leadership, business owners, IT, the professional billing office, revenue cycle teams and others as needed. This individual will work closely with these various groups to develop, implement and manage medical record review, communication, and education strategies that are needed to achieve desired results. As a highly strategic department representative, this individual consistently demonstrates solid project management skills and behaviors, in addition to continually striving to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Position: Coding Education Specialist
Department: BUMG Corporate PBO General
Schedule: Full Time
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Assist with development of strategic coding communication and education plans which outline the target audience, training needs, training methods and implementation.
Assist with the development of coding content-specific, competency-based, and operational-based communication and educational deliverables in conjunction with specific business unit resources and technical experts.
Creates presentations, develops learning materials, handbooks, and other training materials.
Lead training sessions on current billing and coding information in the medical field.
Provide mentoring and education to physicians and provide feedback to 3rd party vendor on findings to improve their current performance.
Communicates and advises the Physician Group and Revenue Cycle staff on coding and documentation principles.
Manage the delivery of communication and coding training to various groups, including leadership teams and end-users. Delivery methods may include instructor-led, train the trainer, virtual classroom, web-cast, or web based methodologies.
Manage the maintenance of coding training materials.
Review and respond to coding questions.
Perform random chart audits.
Maintains confidentiality with all company and regulated information.
Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of formal education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Must be a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician(CCS-P) through AHIMA(American Information Management Association) or AAPC’s (American Academy of Professional Coders) Certified Professional Coder(CPC®) credential or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H®)
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of experience in E/M and/or surgical coding plus reimbursement activities is a required.
In addition, a clinical background and previous chart abstraction experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Competency in the use of a variety of computer hardware and software systems.
Excellent command of the ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT coding conventions, E&M coding.
Work also requires concepts of human anatomy, physiology and pathology.
Compensation Range:
$62,500.00- $91,000.00This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
