Position: Clinical Research Coordinator, Eye Clinic Research

Schedule: 40 hours per week, on-site

POSITION SUMMARY:
This unique position would be perfect for someone who is interested in medicine but also has some computer programing or engineering experience. This individual will be working on approximately 3-5 protocols, with 1-2 different mfOCT research devices, which are designed to provide more in-depth imaging results through non-invasive methods. These protocols will be looking at investigating abnormalities in the eye, including: the cornea, conjunctiva, retina, glaucoma progression, and the effectiveness of various treatment methods. May assist Principal Investigator with interpreting experimental results and preparing and writing manuscripts.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruits subjects to participate in the study and conducts participant enrollment, including explaining research projects, research procedures, and obtaining informed consent. Administers questionnaires, abstracts medical records, maintains patient databases, assists in grant preparation, performs literature searches, and participates with the research team in preparation of data and reports.
Evaluate and track the eligibility of all patients seen in the clinic for eligibility in research studies. Obtain informed consent (for non-treatment studies) and register patients to cohort studies and other protocols.
Conduct telephone interviews and schedule patients for study visits. Review and abstract the medical records for patients, including review of pathology reports.
Perform clinical tests (Phlebotomy, EKGs). Assist with the coordination of the collection, processing, organization, and storage of biological specimens in the systems
Operates mfOCT imaging devices. Participates in data collection activities.
Liaisons with Institutional Review Board (IRB) to facilitate approval of projects, ongoing documentation, and reporting.
Assists with new grant proposal development, and preparation of research reports and presentations. Assist with additional protocols and training as they arise.

JOB RQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Matlab experience preferred.
Experience in either computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or other engineering fields.
Previous experience with grant writing, IRB submissions, data management, and database development, preferred.
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus. Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial, and ethnic populations.
Knowledge of MS Office applications, database systems, and the Internet.
