POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Clinical Pharmacist on the Operations team, you will be highly integrated at the front-line of medication production, verification, and distribution, with oversight of technician workflow in the central inpatient pharmacy and sterile compounding suites. You will have the opportunity to cross-train in satellite pharmacy areas, and cross-cover clinical pharmacy shifts as needed.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Assure accurate and timely acquisition, distribution, and waste management of all medications, including controlled substances and investigational drugs.
Oversee the production of sterile, non-sterile, and hazardous compounding operations to ensure compliance with USP <797>, <795> and <800>.
Supervise the activities of supportive personnel, including student interns and pharmacy technicians.
Review and process medication orders, evaluating for appropriateness and compliance with hospital and accreditation standards, and state/federal regulations.
Identify medication related safety events, report errors, and provide recommendations for process improvement.
Assist in the orientation and training of newly hired pharmacists, pharmacy residents, students, and technicians.
Triage medication related concerns with decentralized clinical pharmacists to optimize patient care and minimize delays in medication delivery.
Collaborate with clinical specialists, physicians, and other medical staff on drug therapies and regimens. Review and approve medication orders, provides timely and accurate drug information, and conduct interventions on renal dose adjustments, IV to PO conversions, and therapeutic interchange as appropriate.
Assist the leadership team with initiatives to improve workflow or on special projects as requested.
Ensure compliance with standards and regulations from federal, state, and local governments, as well as other regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission.
Maintain own professional and specialized competency, including the following: Assumes responsibility in participating in experiences necessary to ensure appropriate skill development and training. Maintains and displays appropriate knowledge of developments in the field through continuing education, reviewing patient literature, and/or attending professional meetings. Attends and participates in hospital and other management training and development workshops.
Perform other related tasks as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
PharmD Degree (or Bachelor’s plus 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience) Licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Massachusetts (or eligible to become fully licensed within 45 days from date of hire)
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Prior hospital pharmacy experience preferred, but not required
Work requires a high level of analytical ability, organizational and personal management skills, and focus to ensure a concerted approach to operations
Work requires a comprehensive understanding of the procedures, systems, and equipment used by pharmacists and technicians in the pharmacy, as well as a high proficiency in performing pharmacists’ duties and responsibilities
Proficient with standard software used in pharmacy office setting (i.e. MS Word, Excel, pharmacy systems, web browsers, etc.)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
