POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pharmacy Supply Chain Inventory Management Supervisor at Cornerstone mail order pharmacy (CHS) is responsible for inventory management and procurement of pharmaceuticals and maintenance of pharmacy medication & supply inventory to support the provision of cost-effective patient-focused pharmacy services. Provides training to CHS supply chain support staff and supervises the staff in the placement of orders, inventory & fulfillment processes. Performs various administrative projects as assigned.

Department: Outpatient Pharmacy

Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Supervises the CHS supply chain staff.  Supervision includes training, delegating tasks, overseeing daily activities, mentoring, and guiding through demonstration of best practices and offering opportunities for professional development. Prepares performance evaluations, submits timesheets; responsible for hiring, disciplining and processing terminations in accordance with established polices.

  • Oversees the training of pharmacy employees in stocking the pharmacy shelves appropriately, monitoring for outdated products, and the processing returns for prompt credits.

  • Supervises barcode labeling system for all medication and delivery of daily orders.

  • Provides orientation and training to new staff on unit dose and inventory processes.

  • Process the ordering and receiving of all drugs and supplies at both pharmacies in a timely manner.

  • Coordinates the procurement and maintenance of medication and non-drug supplies (labels, etc.) necessary for the fulfillment of patient prescriptions at both pharmacy locations.

  • Establishes and monitors weekly inventory and drug budgets for both pharmacy accounts with monthly budget spreadsheet.

  • Coordinates the annual pharmacy medication inventory for both inpatient pharmacies.

  • Generates purchasing and inventory reports and analysis as requested by the Inpatient Pharmacy Senior Manager or Director of Pharmacy.

  • Maintains a timely and accurate flow of purchasing and receipts with Accounts Payable and resolves all billing problems.

  • Processes drug recalls in a timely manner when informed by the FDA and Drug Companies.

  • Ensures proper rotation and maintenance of inventory. Coordinates with the Return Company for quarterly removal of expired drugs.

  • Alerts management of any short or long-term backorders or medication shortages.

  • Performs all failure mode analysis on any generic name brand changes.

  • Informs manager when all generic vendors are exhausted to find other alternatives as therapeutic substitutes.

  • Monitors purchasing contract compliance and market share on a quarterly basis.

  • Prepares, secures authorized signature and processes all purchase orders; assists manager in establishing appropriate annual purchase orders for vendors.

  • Works with manager in the development and preparation of proposals to bid for pharmaceutical contracts; track credits and rebates due once the contracts are signed.

  • Performs all department required quality assurance responsibilities.

  • Maintains the required level of competency to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Conforms to the hospitals’ standards of conduct so that the best possible customer service and patient care is provided.

  • Conducts interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and fellow employees in a courteous and customer friendly manner.

  • Takes corrective action to improve performance on problem areas

  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

  • Utilizes hospital’s behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to support the hospital’s mission and goals.

  • Performs other related tasks as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent degree and strong mathematical skills.

  • Some college, and associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy by hire date.

  • National pharmacy technician certification from either Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam of Certified Pharmacy Techs (exCPT)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires at least three years related experience, including drug purchasing and inventory management.

  • Retail Pharmacy and / or QS1 experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to speak the English language, read, interpret and follow complicated verbal and written instruction with precision, accuracy and dependability

  • Leadership ability to guide, direct, and mentor staff.

  • Ability to work independently to accomplish assigned daily tasks to expectation, consistently, and on-time.

  • Familiarity with 340B and Wholesale Acquisition Cost (WAC) ordering and dispensing.

  • Effective and strong interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff.

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Microsoft Office; Excel, Word; and ability to adapt to specialized inventory/stock control software to track and record inventory levels.

  • Ability to readily adapt to changes in schedule specifications, and work priorities as the business and customer needs demand.

  • Physical ability to lift heavy loads as required for filling medication supply orders.

  • Must maintain the required level of competency to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Compensation Range:

$66,000.00- $96,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
