Position: Child Protection Team Social Worker

Schedule: Part Time, Per Diem, On-Call
POSITION SUMMARY :
The Child Protection Team, part of the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, is a multidisciplinary group of pediatricians and social workers with specialized training in child abuse and neglect.
This position is for a Clinical Social Worker who will join a rotation of Child Protection Team Social Workers in providing telephone-based after-hours consultation regarding cases of suspected child abuse or neglect to providers and staff across Boston Medical Center Health System and its affiliated Community Health Centers. This person will also act as a liaison to our colleagues and the MA Department of Children and Families (DCF) when on-call.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Provide expert phone based clinical consultation to staff and providers across BMC, associated hospitals, and affiliated health centers around the assessment and management of child abuse and neglect cases.
Cover Child Protection Team Social Work after hours call in a rotation pool of approximately 1 week per month (est. average is 12 consults/week).
On-Call week begins on Monday at 5pm and ends the following Monday at 9am. Coverage is from 5pm – 9am M-F, 24 hours per weekend day.
Respond to pages/calls within 15 mins when on-call.
Partners with collaborating Child Protection Team physician regarding medical issues to ensure multi-disciplinary recommendations.
Complete documentation in EPIC and EMR.
Complete written shift sign-outs in order to ensure good communication with and timely follow-up by team members.
Attend and participate in Child Protection Team rounds and in Child Protection Team case review when available.
Maintain remote electronic access to EPIC and EMR.
Communicates effectively and proactively with healthcare professionals, collateral contacts, and colleagues.
Participate in Quarterly On-Call Social Work Team meetings.
Engage in collegial clinical case review, group supervision, and identify any QI related issues.
Participate in collaborative individual clinical case review with Co-Coordinators annually.
Other Duties:
Conform to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
Utilize the hospital’s behavioral standards as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the hospital and the department’s mission.
Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.
Must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Requires Master’s Degree from an accredited school of Social Work.
Requires a Massachusetts license as a Licensed Certified Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (or eligible for licensure within 90 days of hire).
EXPERIENCE:
Preferred: 3-5 years relevant work experience, including hospital/healthcare setting or child welfare
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Requires knowledge of Social Work process and community resources and agencies relative to children and families.
In-depth knowledge of child maltreatment and community resources including DCF, CACs, courts, DA/police, etc.
Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with various healthcare professionals.
Must be comfortable in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.
Excellent English language skills to summarize and communicate orally and in writing moderately complex information in varied formats to internal and external providers.
Commitment to social justice and anti-racism informed practice.
Bicultural/Bilingual competency a plus.
