Boston Medical Center (BMC) and the Boston University (BU) Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine are jointly recruiting a Chief of Cardiac Surgery to lead our established program that recently earned a three-star rating—the highest possible—from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons for patient care and outcomes in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) operations. 

Ideal characteristics of the Chief include:

  • Collaborative spirit and desire to provide strategic direction for the growth of the Division of Cardiac Surgery
  • Clinical excellence and expert patient care
  • Experience as a leader within a school of medicine and/or major teaching hospital
  • Enthusiasm for collegial decision-making in an interdisciplinary structure
  • Interest in the education of medical students, residents, and other trainees
  • Record of scholarly and administrative success
  • Ability to build internal and community partnerships to advance patient care and the Division

BMC is committed to scholarship and education and is the 13th largest recipient of funding from the National Institutes of Health among independent hospitals. BMC is also the primary teaching affiliate of the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, a highly-ranked medical school dedicated to urban and international health and recognized as a leader in groundbreaking medical research. The Department of Surgery has a significant record of clinical, outcomes, translational, and basic research activity. In addition, faculty members in the Division of Cardiac Surgery collaborate with investigators in the Section of Cardiovascular Medicine and the BU Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute.
