Schedule: 40 hours, Nights, Every 3rd Weekend as needed

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Central Processing Technician I position (CP Tech I) is a training position.   In this position, a newly hired employee will be exposed to the full range of Central Processing Technician functions carried out by CP Techs at BMC and evaluated for competency in those functions specific to the CP Tech I role.  All CP Tech 1s, regardless of background or prior experience, are given training in and eventually made responsible for collection and inventory, cleaning and decontamination, kit assembly, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, supplies, and equipment to the Operating Rooms, Labor and Delivery, Ambulatory Surgery and other customer departments.  All CP Tech Is will be trained; to maintain detailed sterilization records, set priorities to complete assigned work on time, and demonstrate superb interpersonal skills that enable the Department to achieve its mission.

At the end of one year training period, all CP Tech Is will be required certification as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) by the International Association for Central Sterile Healthcare Materials Management (IAHCSMM).

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or government recognized equivalent.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) by the International Association for Central Sterile Healthcare Material Management (IAHCSMM), or, as a Central Sterile Professional Department Technician (CSPDT by the American Society of Healthcare Central Sterile Professionals (ASHCSP) is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Requires ability to speak, read, write, and communicate in English effectively with CP Department managers, supervisors, and staff, Charge Nurses, MDs, and staff other clinical and support departments.

  • Ability to accurately interpret and use medical terminology and abbreviations.

  • Ability to access and enter computerized data and information.

  • Organizational skills to effectively set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.

Completion of a sterile processing program preferred
